An Elizabethan Manor house with far-reaching views over the downs, Cain Manor's barn-style music room with oak beams and cathedral windows make it a unique combination of cosy and bright. Mr Cane was excommunicated by the Pope and named his estate 'The Land of Nod' - a reference to the Biblical land 'in the East of Eden' that hosted the exiled Cain after he had slain his brother Abel. The original part of the house dates back to this period. There is still an original window in Sam's room, but the exact date that the house was built is not known.
The timbers used to build the manor are thought to be recycled ship timbers, as was the fashion in Elizabethan times.
